A SENSORY CONNECTION WITH THE CITY OF LAND AND SEA

Paraty is part of the so-called Rio de Janeiro State’s Costa Verde (Green Shoreline) and is surrounded by four large conservation areas right in the heart of the Atlantic Forest. There are 65 islands and over 300 small beaches – little or large, wild or crowded – comprising an idyllic scenario of crystalline and emerald waters, surrounded by forests and perfect for boat rides, stand up paddling, snorkeling, waterfall trips, and hikes.

The historic city, founded in the 17th century, maintain its stone-paved roads and colonial manors preserved. The city was listed by IPHAN in 1958, awarded the title of Creative City for Gastronomy (2017), and UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage (2019).

In Brazil one can hardly find a destination that gathers so many virtues such as conservation areas, scenic beauties, culture, and history. And what makes Paraty even more unique is the form of which such expressions remain vibrant. With dozens of art studios, small boutiques, large brand stores and excellent restaurants side by side with churches and historical buildings open to visitation, the city breathes culture and history amid breathtaking landscapes.

A sensory connection with the city of land and sea

Joining the hustle and bustle or relaxing at the Pousada Literária de Paraty, it doesn’t matter – here you can do both. It's like being in the middle of the bustle and the quiet at the same time; feeling at home in the historic center of the most interesting city on the Rio-São Paulo axis.

From the door inwards, a silent and relaxing atmosphere with 27 rooms and villas distributed along a set of colonial manors around a central garden, the well-being of the Poesia Spa and exclusive access to the Quintal Letras restaurant, one of the city’s best gastronomical experiences. From the door outwards, restaurants, studios and small stores just a few minutes' walk away.

Explore

If Paraty is a gastronomical tour, elected a Creative City by UNESCO in 2017, Quintal das Letras is considered one of the town’s best restaurants, a place where the roots of the caiçara cuisine and the native flavors awaken the five senses, with organic ingredients produced at Fazenda Bananal.

Check out

Well-being, relaxation and self-care space of Pousada Literária, open to the public with a menu of therapies and body and facial treatments, such as hydrotherapy, hot tub immersion baths, aromacology, massages for detoxification, relaxation and nutrition. Therapies are performed by skilled professionals, trained by L´Occitane’s international team, with national, imported products, and fresh herbs picked from Fazenda Bananal.

Explore

Adjacent to Pousada Literária, amidst Paraty’s old downtown, the Marés Bookshop (Livraria das Marés) welcomes travelers and residents alike to read the classics and latest releases of modern literature and to follow a rather interesting selection of events. Among shelves with hundreds of titles and the patisserie tables, the visit is also worth for the conversations and indications of the booksellers at Marés.

Visit

A few minutes from the old downtown, Fazenda Bananal is a genuine immersion experience in the Atlantic Forest, in an original 17th century farm with 180 hectares of preserved area.

The Farm offers a day of immersion and playful and educational experiences in the forest, tracks, art exhibits, and special programs aligned with the city’s main events.

At the Fazenda Bananal restaurant, the menu turns native food and ingredients into high cuisine meals, prepared with organic ingredients produced at the Farm’s SAFs and vegetable gardens. The enormous windows facing the forest and the patio with external tables make this experience even more connected with nature.

Villa Mamanguá

Villa Mamanguá

Villa Mamanguá is an experience that is, at the same time, exclusive and immersive, in the caiçara’s best way of living. A secluded beach with just one charming house with two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and a deck, where you can wake up to the sound of the sea, have lunch with freshly caught grilled fish, be surrounded by the lush nature of the Atlantic Forest, swing in a hammock and watch the sun go down.

All of this in the amazing Saco do Mamanguá, a natural recess off the coast of Paraty that is similar to a “tropical fjord”, with Pousada Literária’s standards of comfort and 24/7 service.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

The Pousada is very well located, in the old downtown of Paraty. The employees are very polite, friendly, and well trained (they wear the establishment's shirt, literally). Everyone, without exception, is to be congratulated. The service is top notch! The breakfast is very tasty and well served. The restaurant has a very well-prepared menu, and we loved the options we ordered. The pool is beautiful and has great dimensions, allowing good strokes. The Reading Room is very cozy and pleasant, with a great collection.

Simply divine. Excellent pousada, with incredible reception and service. High-quality breakfast at any time, including in the room. The room is simply wonderful, spacious and super comfortable, with soft pillows and super fluffy towels, with products from L'Occitane. A haven for dating and resting. Incredible experiences. Excellent cuisine. I can't wait to go back.

Perfect stay, charm and exclusivity! Amazing pousada, structure, service. It is without a doubt a boutique inn. There's no shortage of charm there! Great experience. The pousada is located on the main street of the old downtown of Paraty. The room I stayed in was large, well decorated and comfortable. Sensational breakfast, with great variety and everything very tasty. I loved discovering juçaí, açaí from the Atlantic Forest. Not to mention that the cheese bread waffle is divine! What's more, the hostel's environment is clean, with a beautiful green area and pool available.
